| In Dub is a specialist reggae
shop situated in the same block as Cafe Irie at the heart of Temple
Bar. It opens at 11 am, with activity in the area already simmering,
and closes at 6.30 pm, when Dublins cultural quater prepares to
host the city's hedonists......Ram, an Irish Resident for 20 years
but originally from Libya, took up a temporary "deejaying"
position in the Dice Bar. He would eventually keep it for 18 months.
But his full time job makes him the proud owner of in dub. The
music shop was originally on Parnell Street, now its prime location
in Temple Bar reflects the increasing popularity of the music,
Rasta culture, and anything remotely associated to it, is an inescapable
element of "cool" in Dublin...... In dub proposes a
rare selection of reggae records, which no multinational can rival.
it explains why many DJs shop for their playlist in this tiny
basement shop. As the music resurfaces in the hit parade, especially
through dancehall, this is the place where the curious can be
initiated.... What differentiates In Dub from other music stores
is the sincere commitment of Ram to the musical style he proposes.
He is a colourful character, ruling over a reggae enclave, among
the many "alternative" shops that are so vital to Temple
Bar's verve.
